POWDERED METALLURGY – GEAR ADJUSTERS
ASCO Sintering is an award-winning custom
manufacturer of gear adjusters utilizing the
powdered metallurgy process. ASCO Sintering
in 1998 received the Non- Ferrous Grand Prize
Award from the Metal Powder Industries Federation
(MPIF). The award was given in recognition of the
gear adjuster for sprinkler heads used in lawn and
garden product applications. The gear adjusters
are manufactured from a brass material produced
using a two-piece sinter-bonded design, which is
accomplished by slightly altering the material
characteristics. The powder metallurgy process
utilized by ASCO Sintering in the production of
the gear adjuster allows for the complex
configuration of the spur gear, radial flange teeth,
hex socket, and provides an online incremental
spray adjustment.
There are numerous advantages in producing parts
such as gear adjusters using powder metallurgy
process over alternative fabricating processes.
Advantages in the powdered metallurgy process
include substantial cost savings, a wider choice of
raw materials, lower energy consumed to produce
components, and less time involved. Powdered
metal parts can be produced in large quantities to
tight tolerances. ASCO Sintering has developed
breakthrough designs for powdered metal gears that increase performance and
reduce system cost – such as, American Gear
Manufacturers Association (AGMA) class-8 heat
treated gears, utilizing proprietary high strength,
wear and impact resistant materials. Other lawn
and garden applications include sprinkler rotors,
spray nozzles, irrigation components, pattern
adjusters, valves, cutters, linkages, counter balances,
clutch rotors and shoes. |
